SPURS' WILLIAN BID REBUFFED
Shakhtar Donetsk have reportedly rejected an £11.8million bid from Tottenham for Brazilian forward Willian. Sky Sports News report they have spoken to Shakhtar's chief executive, who has confirmed an offer has been rebuffed. Andre Villas-Boas is eager to bring in additional firepower before the close of the transfer window on Friday and had earmarked Willian as his number one target.
He now has some money to spend after Tottenham agreed a deal thought to be worth £33m for Luka Modric. Could some of that money go on Loic Remy? According to the Daily Mail, Spurs scouts watched him come on as a second-half substitute on Sunday as Marseille beat Montpellier 1-0.
NO TIOTE BUT MAYBE CABAYE?
So said Arsene Wenger after the 0-0 draw with Stoke: "I'm pleased with what I have, but yes I anticipate that we will do something. Defensive midfielder? It depends on the quality of the players available. Tiote is a good player, but he's not on the way to Arsenal."
So if not Tiote, then who? Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila is still the name in the frame, but the Daily Mail repeat a weekend rumour and suggest that Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye might be the target. Cabaye made six tackles against Chelsea on Saturday and could adapt to playing a more defensive game.
EVERTON AND VILLA WANT DOYLE
We've kind of given it away in the headline there, haven't we? The Doyle in question is of course Wolves striker Kevin Doyle, who has been a long-term target of David Moyes at Everton. Quite why he would buy another striker when he's just bought Kevin Mirallas is anybody's guess. We would think that Villa's need is rather greater.
