CITY AGREE FEE FOR RODWELL
We can't understand how Jack Rodwell is still considered to be a £20million player, but that's the price Man City have reportedly agreed to pay Everton for the midfielder.
Rodwell has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons and made just 14 Premier League appearances for Everton in the last campaign. However, Roberto Mancini wants to kick-start City's summer spending with a big-money move for the twice-capped England international.
According to The Sunday Mirror: 'Roberto Mancini has been a big admirer of the Everton starlet since seeing him destroy his side in a crucial Premier League game in 2010.
'Mancini was also impressed with the man-marking job that Rodwell did on David Silva when Everton visited the Etihad last season.'
They also add that City could face competition from Man United, which seems unlikely.
UNITED TO INCREASE VAN PERSIE BID
With Robin Van Persie set to feature for Arsenal against Cologne on Sunday - and possibly retain the captain's armband - it's looking increasingly unlikely that he'll leave the Gunners this summer.
However, that hasn't stopped The Daily Star on Sunday continuing speculation over the striker's future, with a story claiming Man United will up their bid for the Dutchman to £20million before the Premier League season kicks off.
The Daily Mail have a different slant on Van Persie's situation, though, and suggest that the rivalry between Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson has scuppered any chance of a transfer.
According to The Mail: 'The pair were locked at the top of the English game for a decade, and although relations between the pair have mellowed in recent seasons, the fight for Van Persie, with the Dutchman preferring a move to United instead of Juventus and Manchester City, has re-opened some old wounds.'
Wenger and Fergie feuding again? This bodes well for the new season.
LIVERPOOL TO OFFER ADAM FOR DEMPSEY
Despite Fulham denying they were interested in Charlie Adam earlier in the summer, Liverpool are trying to force the midfield bruiser on Martin Jol as they try to tie up a deal for Clint Dempsey.
Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Liverpool don't have the money that was available last summer and the club's attempt to kill two birds with one stone highlights the Northern Irishman's commitment to being "strategic" in the transfer market.
The Daily Mail say Adam is now surplus to requirements at Anfield following the arrival of Joe Allen and with the Reds struggling to find the £10million Fulham are demanding for Dempsey, the Scotland international could be the perfect make-weight.
ISCO NEXT FOR ARSENAL
Quick line from The Metro, who say Arsenal plan to return to Malaga to sign Spain under-21 international Isco.
Tim Stannard selected the young midfielder/forward as one of five breakthrough playersfrom La Liga at the end of last season and despite a poor Olympic campaign with Spain, the 20-year-old is still considered to be one of Spain's many bright hopes for the future.
According to The Metro, Isco is valued at around £8million and Malaga would consider a quick sale as they seek to ease their financial crisis.
